Police Blotter: Two Teens Arrested for Mugging Man for Cell and E-Reader on 10th Street

Two young kids, a 16-year-old and 13-year-old, punched a man and mugged him for his cell phone and Kindle between Fourth and Fifth avenues May 21.

The following information was supplied by the 78th Precinct of the NYPD. It does not indicate a conviction.

Teenage Duo Punch and Rob Man

Police arrested two teens for mugging a man for his cell phone and e-reader while walking on 10th Street May 21.

The 26-year-old victim told police that he was walking east on 10th Street from Fourth Avenue when two kids demanded he give them his cell phone at 9 p.m. When the victim refused, the 16-year-old crook punched him in the face multiple times—breaking his glasses. The 16-year-old then said if he called the police he would stab him, however he did not show a knife. The 13-year-old kid acted as a look out while the older crook stole the victim’s backpack. They both ran back towards Fourth Avenue. Police arrested the duo while holding the victim’s belongings, the backpack which had the victim’s Kindle e-reader, a box of pennies and an umbrella inside. The victim refused medical attention on the scene.

Passenger Steals Taxicab

Police arrested a 50-year-old crook after he stole a livery cab on Seventh Avenue May 25.

The 25-year-old victim told police that the crook flagged him down between Eighth and Ninth streets and asked to go to Williamsburg at 3 a.m. As the driver got out of his black Crown Victoria to put his passenger’s bags in the trunk, the crook hopped in the driver’s seat and sped away. The victim’s iPhone and GPS were still inside the car, but the crook turned them off so his location could not be traced. However, cops found him and arrested the 50-year-old booster soon after the joyride.
