Police Blotter: Thief Snatches iPhone from Woman on Berkeley Place

The 44-year-old victim told police that she was walking between Fifth and Sixth avenues at 5:20 p.m. when a man snatched her iPhone.

The following information was supplied by the 78th Precinct of the NYPD. It does not indicate a conviction.

iPhone Snatch on Berkeley

A quick-handed crook snatched a woman’s iPhone out of her hands while she was walking on Berkeley Place May 6.

The 44-year-old victim told police that she was walking between Fifth and Sixth avenues at 5:20 p.m. when a crook, described as an 18-year-old black man, ran up, grabbed her white iPhone out of her hands and ran west on Berkeley Place. Before the victim reported the crime to cops, she erased all of her information from her cellphone remotely and changed her password. The victim did not get a good look at the crook’s face, but described him as standing 5-foot-8, weighing about 130 lbs., with short hair, and was wearing a black sweater and black jeans. Two different cameras, one on Fifth Avenue and another on Union Street, may have caught the crook running away after the crime.

Motorcycle Boosted

A thief stole a motorcycle from its parking spot on Sixth Avenue sometime between May 2 and 4.

The 43-year-old victim told police that he parked his silver BMW motorcycle between Seventh and Eighth streets May 2 at 7 p.m. When he returned to get his wheels two days later at 8 a.m., it was gone. Police said that his motorcycle was not towed.
