Police Blotter: iPhone Snatched from Man Sleeping on Subway

The 23-year-old victim told police that he boarded a Brooklyn-bound R train at 14th Street in Manhattan at 1:35 a.m. but fell asleep.

The Snoozing Snatch 

A thief snatched a man’s iPhone on a train while it pulled into the Fourth Avenue-Ninth Street subway station June 15.

The 23-year-old victim told police that he boarded a Brooklyn-bound R train at 14th Street in Manhattan at 1:35 a.m. but fell asleep. When the train pulled into the Fourth Avenue-Ninth Street subway station, witnesses said that a 35-year-old woman wearing a green jacket snatched his iPhone out of his shirt pocket and ran off the train at 2 a.m. A 56-year-old witness woke up the victim to tell him what had just happened. The crook got away with the victim’s iPhone 5.

The Bin Burglar

A burglar stole four bins filled with sterling silver and other metals for a total of $2,500 from a Fifth Street apartment sometime between June 8 and 11.

The 44-year-old victim told police that she left her apartment, between Eighth Avenue and Prospect Park West, June 8 at 5 p.m. and didn’t return until June 11 5 p.m. When she came back home, she found that someone had stolen four bins filled with sterling silver and other metals, worth about $2,500. The victim told cops that she suspects her stepson in the heist, who was in her apartment with her husband over the weekend.
