Chris Owens was elected to the Democratic State Committee from the 52nd Assembly District in September, 2010. 

He is a "reform" Democrat with a long history of political and community activism.  Chris is a multi-decade member and past President of the Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats (CBID), a multi-decade member of Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn (LID), and a nine-year member of the Independent Neighborhood Democrats (IND).  In 2008, Chris was an Obama Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Brooklyn's 11th Congressional District and hosted "Black Politics with Chris Owens" on Air America Radio.  In 2006, Chris was a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in the Democratic Primary.  From 1993-1999, Chris served on the old Community School Board 13 and was its President for one year.

Professionally, Chris has worked in the public, private and non-profit sectors.  He currently serves as the Executive Director of a non-profit law firm, Advocates for Justice (www.advocatesforjustice.net), amongst other jobs.

Chris Owens resides in Prospect Heights with his wife and two sons, both of whom attend New York City public schools.  His father, Major Owens, and his brother, Millard Owens, also live in Prospect Heights.
