Don't Miss: Fall Civic Sweep

Help keep Park Slope beautiful at the annual Civic Sweep.

Beautify Park Slope for the fall season and join the Park Slope Civic Council at its annual fall recycling and clean-up event -- the Fall Civic Sweep on Oct. 19.

Put on some of your old clothes and meet at the sidewalk in front of Old Stone House/JJ Byrne Playground on 5th Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain or shine).

Join other volunteers in weeding and mulching street trees, picking up litter on sidewalks and painting out graffiti on lampposts. Those interested in participating in 4th Avenue work for the Fall Civic Sweep should meet at 10 a.m. at the new FOFA SIP planter on the southwest corner of 4th Avenue and St. Marks.

Not only can you beautify the streets, but you can also bring your unwanted electronics -- TVs, computers and home entertainment equipment -- for recycling by the Lower East Side Ecology Center. Do not bring microwaves, air conditioners, refrigerators, or smoke detectors.

The civic council will give away free daffodil bulbs for planting in public areas, serve refreshments and provide all tools and supplies. Volunteers will leave wearing “I Made Park Slope Cleaner Today” stickers. Community Service vouchers will also be available, and volunteers will get to enjoy bluegrass performed by The Handsome Hearts.
