Con Edison Reduces Voltage to Neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens

The electric company cut power to areas in Brooklyn and Queens in response to the intense city-wide heatwave.

Con Edison has reduced power to areas in Queens and Brooklyn — including Flatbush — due to the high temperatures the city is experiencing, All Media NY reports.

Neighborhoods in Brooklyn that will be operating with reduced voltage include Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood, East New York, Cypress Hills, Highland Park, City Line, Starrett City, Sheepshead Bay, Marine Park and Gerritsen Beach.

Neighborhoods in Queens that have seen a 5 percent drop in voltage include Douglaston, Forest Hills, Bayside, Woodhaven, Middle Village, Queens Village, Jamaica, Glen Oaks, Floral Park and Bellerose.

Con Edison is working to restore full voltage to those areas.

In a news release Wednesday, the electric company noted that customers can "report power interruptions or service problems as well as view service restoration information online at www.conEd.com and on their cell phones and PDAs."

"Customers may also call Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available. If possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power."
