Nets About to Pull Off Mega-Trade: Report

Blockbuster deal would put Kevin Garnett, Carmelo Anthony in same city.

Somewhere in Manhattan, Carmelo Anthony is sensing a disturbance in the Force.

The Brooklyn Nets have reportedly finalized a deal to trade almost half their current bench and a raft of future draft picks for the Boston Celtics' ancient trio of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry, according to ESPN.

The Nets would part with Kris Humphries, Kris Joseph, MarShon Brooks, Gerald Wallace and Keith Bogans, along with three first round picks over the next six seasons. Also, presumably a "thank you" card of some kind, because that is a lot of spare parts.

The deal would put Garnett, a player famous for his intensity, in the same city as the Knicks' Anthony. Just last season, Anthony — a Brooklyn native — flipped out after being on the receiving end of some of KG's famous and colorful trash talk.

This raises some interesting questions:

  1. Does Knicks owner James Dolan even have enough money for the number of parabolic mics he's going to need to record future trash-talk incidents? He might as well just buy the company that makes the mics, right?
  2. Does Brook Lopez really retain his starting job in this scenario? Does Kidd run a "twin towers" offense like when San Antonio had both Tim Duncan and David Robinson?
  3. Is anyone else going to miss watching the crowd boo Kris Humphries just because he was married to Kim Kardashian?
The trade would also put Garnett, Pierce and Terry under a head coach — Jason Kidd — who they have played against for their entire careers. Garnett, for instance, joined the NBA just one year after Kidd.

So, on balance, good trade? Bad trade? Let us know what you think in the comments.
