MLB Pitcher and Park Slope Native Adam Ottavino Visits PS39

Pro pitcher's visit kicks off schools fitness program.

PS39's Wellness Committee kicked off a fitness program on Jan. 17 with a visit from Major League Baseball pitcher and Park Slope native Adam Ottavino.

With the help of a grant from the Department of Education, the 10 week fitness program focuses on the impact of moderate exercise before school on ability to focus, process information. The program brings parents and kids together in organized sports before school starts on Fridays.

More than 110 PS39 students, parents and teachers attended the kick off event along with Assemblyman Jim Brennan and Councilman Brad Lander.

Ottavino spoke to the kids about the importance of staying active rather than playing video games.
