Private Art Lessons in Park Slope

First and foremost, I believe it is never too early or too late for a student to begin to tap into their creativity.  Whether the student is just beginning (at any age), wanting to follow a career path in art, or simply has the chance to discover their own creative force; it is my joy to help facilitate any and all goals.  The importance of arts education cannot be overstated and has no limits.  Discovering and amplifying one's creativity is valuable in any and all walks of life.

My objective as an instructor is to develop the student’s critical eye. Visual art is a nonverbal language that is acquired through practice at looking and seeing. There is a parallel verbal discourse that students can also learn so that they can communicate their ideas and expand their understanding and ability to communicate about the work of others.  I aim to connect the students' eye more directly to their hand.  The fundamental elements of art (line, mark, positive/negative space, value, perspective and relationship to figure) are common across mediums.

My ultimate goal as their instructor is to leave my students with a more acute way of looking.  I want the student to be able to look at artwork and the visual world in a way that has a more thorough understanding of form. I want to leave my students with the ability, vocabulary and historical background to discuss fundamental formal qualities.  These skills will give my students the confidence to continue on to develop their own artistic practice and the ability to confidently internalize and discuss visual culture. The development of the students’ powers of critical observation is imperative to the student’s development as an artist. The knowledge will continue to serve them throughout their endeavors, regardless of their chosen medium.
