Your Block is Still Unplowed, What Now?

Many Park Slope blocks remain unplowed, but there is something residents can do

Two days after the last of the snow hit the ground in Park Slope, many neighborhood streets remain completely impassable.

Though major avenues have been cleared, many (or even most) neighborhood residents still find their cars blocked in under two feet of snow; still other residents find even some sidewalks still un-shoveled. And while most of the neighborhood's mass transportation has been restored—albeit with delays—Q train service is still suspended, as are many South Brooklyn bus lines.

Rest assured, as you phone in your complaints to 311, someone is listening—it just might not be the Department of Sanitation.

Yesterday Council Member Brad Lander announced that the City Council will hold a hearing on January 10th at 1 p.m. to assess the City's response to the storm, and why, as Lander wrote in his statement, "the response seems so inadequate in so many neighborhoods across the city." The hearing will also determine what needs to be done in the future to prepare the city's response to major snowstorms such as this one.

Many residents have voiced their concerns in the comments right here on Park Slope Patch.

"No plowing had been done on our block or any side block I have seen around Park Slope," wrote commenter Lenore Berner. "This is getting really scary."

In the meantime, it is likely to be the end of the day today before many Park Slope blocks even see a plow.

Residents are encouraged to continue lodging their complaints to 311, but should expect a slow response. Park Slope residents may also submit any complaints to Council Member Lander's website. Calls to 911 should only be made in the case of a true emergency, due to an extremely high volume of storm-related emergency 911 calls.
