UPDATE: Bloomberg Declares Weather Emergency, Up to 8 Inches Predicted

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until 6 a.m. tomorrow; alternate side has been suspended.

With 4- to 8-inches of snow predicted for Brooklyn, Mayor Michael Bloomberg has issued a Weather Emergency Declaration.

Snow is expected to taper off for a few hours in the afternoon, but come back more strongly this evening and overnight, according to a City Hall news release.

There may also be some sleet, as well as wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued a winter storm warning for the New York City area until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

Alternate side parking and garbage and recycling collections are suspended, and meters are free until further notice, according to the City Hall release.

Residents are urged to avoid all unnecessary driving and us public transportation instead. Cars blocking streets will be towed at the owner's expense, according to the City Hall release.
