Weekend Tabloids Slam Spitzer

News, Post endorse Scott Stringer in Comptroller race.

Eliot Spitzer, New York's former governor and the man leading the race to be the city's next comptroller took a beating from the Daily News and the Post over the weekend.

Spitzer was the cover boy Sunday for both New York City tabloids, with each trying hard in its own subtle way to shame the state's former governor. In the end, both papers urged voters to pick his opponent, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer.

The Post nakedly referred to Spitzer's sock-wearing proclivities on its cover — a throwback to some of the most personal, disturbing details of his much-covered time with a prostitute in 2008. The paper also referred to him as a "completely unhinged Manhattan liberal."

The New York Daily News pretty much gave Spitzer the finger, printing the words "Screw You" in bright bold letters on its front page and absolutely raking him over the coals before praising Stringer.

All of this is stuff Spitzer is used to by now, however, and it can't hurt his feelings too much, considering his giant lead in the polls as of Friday.
