Woman Rescued After Plunge into Gowanus Canal

FDNY rescue crews pulled woman out of the toxic waterway early Tuesday evening.

A woman was saved from the Gowanus Canal on Tuesday night, fire officials said.

According to an FDNY spokesman, the woman was in the toxic waterway at around 5:53 p.m. near Union and Bond streets. The rescuers were not immediately sure if she fell in or jumped.

The woman was conscious and holding on to a life ring from an NYPD vessel, but further details about her condition were also not immediately known.

The rescue crew pulled her out by 6:03 p.m. and transported her to New York Methodist Hospital.
