Windsor Terrace Teen Dies After Fall From Queens Rooftop

John Fernando was a resident of Seventh Avenue near Windsor Place.

A Windsor Terrace teen died Friday evening after tumbling from the rooftop of a six-story Queens apartment building, police have confirmed.

Early Friday evening 17-year-old John Fernando was discovered in the backyard of a Forest Hills Gardens apartment complex, One Ascan Avenue. A resident of Seventh Avenue near Windsor Place, Fernando was a student at The Beacon School on the Upper West Side.

Police responded to the scene at 6:38 Friday night after a 911 call was placed. The victim was unconscious when he was taken by ambulance to Jamaica Hospital. He died later due to his injuries.

One witness said that an EMT was talking to the teenager as he was being wheeled into the ambulance on a stretcher.

The incident, which brought a phalanx of police cars, ambulances and first responders to Forest Hills Gardens after sunset Friday, alarmed neighbors and residents at the complex.
