Two People Injured in Bus Crash on Prospect Park West

A private bus driving on Prospect Park West crashed into a parked car on Wednesday, according to members of a volunteer-run ambulance corps on the scene.

According to Hatzolah, a minivan cut off the private bus near 13th Street and the bus hit the van’s back driver's side door at around 4:30 p.m. The bus then crashed into a parked car, which was empty.

The accident left two adults injured and were sent to the hospital in Hatzolah ambulances. The parked car’s back window was shattered and its bumper was crushed up against the back wheel.

A witness said that four Hatzolah ambulances were on the scene within minutes, and FDNY did not respond.

“Forty to 50 people were on the bus and almost all of them walked off,” said Jack Dougherty who is a Prospect Park West resident. “Only two people were put on stretchers and into the ambulances.”

Dougherty said that the other passengers were put on to another bus that drove away quickly.

The driver, who was the only person from the bus on the scene did not comment. It is unclear if he will be charged with a crime.

Another witness called 9-1-1.

“I didn’t see the impact, but I heard a loud noise,” said Sarah Voisine, a Kensington resident who was with her three kids while walking on Prospect Park West at the time of the accident. “It had just crashed and I pulled out my phone and called 9-1-1 immediately.”
