Sexual Assault Suspect Arrested

A man suspected of sexual assault in Sunset Park was arrested, but police are not sure if he is the same predator connected to the string of 10 sexual assaults in the area since March.

Early Tuesday morning, Police arrested a 22-year-old man who faces charges of assault, sex abuse and forcible touching in Sunset Park, police said, according to CBS.

Authorities said Federico Chamorro Yax, who lives in Bensonhurst, was arrested after two recent incidents of sexual assault.

However, police are not sure if the suspect is connected to the , including one rape, that have plagued Sunset Park, South Slope and Park Slope, according to the report.

The report said that Yax allegedly approached a 30-year-old woman on Sept. 4, while she was walking on 65th Street, and reached up her skirt.

The second assault occurred this past Sunday, October 2 at around 3 a.m. Yax supposedly attacked two 22-year-old women on 56th Street. Allegedly, he took hold of one woman and groped her. It was reported that the women punched and scratched Yax until he fled the scene.

When police arrested Yax at his apartment, there were traces of blood on his shirt, according to the report. 

The Special Victims Unit is on this case, according to police, and will be questioning Yax about the string of sexual assaults, .
