Police Blotter: Two Crooks Steal Over a Thousand Dollars of Teeth Bleaching Strips

A Crime Crest

Two shoplifters walked into a pharmacy on Ninth Street and made off with over $1,000 of teeth whitening strips on March 23.

A CVS Pharmacy employee told police that the crooks walked into the store, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, and reached into the glass case and removed 29 different kinds of Crest Advance Strips, one waterpik and one Sonic Care electronic toothbrush for a total of $1,533.

After they removed the items and put them in a blue backpack, one of the crooks, who was wearing a gray sweatshirt stood 5-foot-8, distracted the manager while the other one, who was about 5-foot-9, weighing 200 pounds, split with the backpack.

Jet Ski Gone

A crook made off with a jet ski that was locked up in a parking lot on Douglass Street on March 21.

The 26-year-old victim said that he put his jet ski, a red Kawasaki 250X, worth $8,500 in the shared parking lot between Nevins Street and Third Avenue on March 18 at around 2 p.m. and locked the gate with a chain and padlock. When he returned on March 21 at around 2:30 p.m., the jet ski was gone but the padlock and chain were in tack.

Bike Be Gone

A thief stole a bicycle and an expensive pair of shoes from a woman’s basement on President Street sometime between March 18 and March 25.

The 62-year-old woman said that she put her $1,000 black Cannondale Q4 and a pair of black Zappo shoes worth $250 in her shared basement, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, on March 18. She went back down to get the bike a week later, but both items were gone.

iPhone Swipe

A quick-handed crook snatched a woman’s iPhone from her hands while she was checking her messages on President Street on March 20.

The 44-year-old victim told police that she was walking and checking her messages near Fifth Avenue at around 8:35 p.m. when a crook approached her from behind, grabbed her white iPhone and ran towards Fifth Avenue. 

Diner Done Wrong 

A burglar broke into a Seventh Avenue diner and stole over $2,000 on March 21.

The owner of Purity Diner, on the corner of Seventh Street, told police that the crook removed the cylinder lock on the side door sometime between 4:50 a.m. and 6 a.m., entered and made off with $2,500.
