Police Blotter: Three Men Beat Up and Mug a Man on Second Street

A Beating and a Mugging

Three men beat up a man and stole his cash, passport, a credit card and cell phone while he was walking on Second Street on June 10.

The 19-year-old victim told police that while he was walking between Seventh and Eighth avenues at around 12:35 a.m., three black men, all around 20 years old, approached him from behind and pushed him to the ground, punched and kicked him. Then, the crooks went through the victim’s pockets and mugged him for $35 in cash, his US passport, a credit card and his Droid cell phone. The three men ran off in an unknown direction before the victim could get a good look at him.

3 Train Mugging

A quick-handed crook snatched a woman’s gold necklace and purse while she was riding a 3 train near Grand Army Plaza on June 10.

The 35-year-old victim told police that she was on a northbound 3 train as it pulled into Grand Army Plaza at 1:45 p.m. As the doors opened, a black man in his mid-30s, wearing white sneakers and a grey t-shirt, snatched her gold chain off her neck and her small, black purse and ran off the train.

A Break in, Laptop Gone

A burglar broke into a man’s home on Third Street and stole his Apple laptop on June 6.

The 52-year-old victim told police that he left his apartment, between Seventh and Eighth avenues, at around 8 a.m. His ex-wife, who lives upstairs from him, said that she let a National Grid employee into the building at 11:30 a.m. to check the meters in the basement. She said that she did not see the worker leave, but heard her close the front door 10 minutes later. When the victim returned at 7:30 p.m., he noticed that his Apple MacBook Air was missing from his apartment.

Bar Booth Heist

A crook swiped a woman’s purse with an iPad inside from a Ninth Street watering hole on June 6.

The 30-year-old victim told police that she was at The Dram Shop, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, when she went out to smoke a cigarette, leaving her purse in a booth she was sitting in at around 1 p.m. When she came back 30 minutes later, she found that her purse was missing. The thief got away with an iPad and a pocketbook with two credit cards, a debit card and her driver’s license.

Under Par

A crook stole a man’s golf clubs from the trunk of a car parked on Sixth Street sometime between June 3 and 4.

The 34-year-old victim told police that he parked his wife’s car, a gray Infiniti, between Seventh and Eighth avenues at around 11 a.m. on June 3 and left his golf clubs in the trunk. When he returned to the car the next day at around 2 p.m., he realized his set of 34 Callaway and Taylor Made clubs were gone.
