Police Blotter: Thief Snatched $2,200 from Woman's Back Pocket on Fifth Ave.

Pocket Heist

A pickpocket snatched an envelope with $2,200 inside from a woman’s back pocket while on Fifth Avenue on June 18.

The 46-year-old victim told police that she took out $2,200 out of the Chase Bank on the corner of Ninth Street at around 12:09 p.m., placed the money in an envelope and put it in her back right pocket. While she was standing in front of the bank, an elderly black woman, about 70 years old, bumped into her. The victim did not realize the money was missing until 2 p.m. She went to work, changed, put on a wig and went back to the bank to look for the woman. Once she returned to the scene she called the police. 

Smash and Grab

A crook smashed the window of a car parked on Sixth Avenue and stole an airbag and laptop on June 18.

The 48-year-old victim told police that she parked her red Nissan between Sixth and Seventh streets on June 17 at 4 p.m. and then went to her sister’s house. But on June 18 at 8:30 a.m. she went to check on her car and found that someone smashed the rear passenger-side window and stole the steering wheel airbag and her HP laptop from underneath the passenger seat.   

Another Pocket Heist

A pickpocket swiped a woman’s wallet from her purse while walking on 15th Street, making off with $1,000 cash and used her debit card for $2,000 on June 17. 

The 25-year-old victim told police that she was on the corner of 15th Street and Prospect Park West when she realized her wallet was missing from her bag. The crook got away with $1,000 in cash, three credit cards and two debit cards. Later, Radio Shack on Seventh Avenue called and told her someone was trying to charge $2,000 on her card.  

Stoop Snatch

A thief snatched a bag of high-end designer clothes from a First Street stoop left out for the dry cleaners to pick up on June 8.

The 37-year-old victim told police that she had called the cleaners at around 3 p.m. and placed her laundry bag on her stoop between Eighth Avenue and Prospect Park West and went back inside. By 5:30 p.m., the cleaners told her that they did not see the bag of clothes. The thief got away with a designer dress, a few pairs of jeans, shirts and pants, totaling $1,570.
