Police Blotter: Crooks Rob Man for $100 After Hitting him with Unknown Object on 15th Street

Hit and Mug

A crook hit a man with an unknown object in the back, as another distracted him, and the duo stole $100 cash from the man while he was walking along 15th Street on July 18.

The 27-year-old victim told police that he was walking between Fourth and Fifth avenues at around 12:20 a.m. when a black woman, standing approximately 5-foot-8 and weighing 150, asked him for directions to the Manhattan-bound subway. Then, another crook came up from behind and hit the man with a hard object in the lower back and stated, “Give me your money!” The crooks robbed the man for $100 in cash, then jumped into a car and drove towards Fourth Avenue. 

Failed Carjacking

A carjacker attempted to boost an SUV, parked on Berkeley Place, but failed — leaving the damaged vehicle behind on July 17.

The 29-year-old victim told police that he parked his Chevy Equinox between Seventh and Eighth streets at around 5 p.m. When he returned to his car an hour later, he found that someone had smashed his rear left window, entered the car and damaged the steering column, in order to steal it. For some reason, the boost was unsuccessful, just leaving the victim’s car busted. 

Rough Mugging for iPod 

A crook mugged a man walking along Eighth Avenue for his iPod on July 16.

The 29-year-old man told police that he was walking down Eighth Avenue, between Fifth and Sixth streets at around 11:15 p.m. when a man ran up from behind, pushed him to the ground and stole his iPod. The crook then ran down Fifth Street towards Prospect Park West. 

Synagogue Heist

A thief broke into an office inside of an Eighth Avenue Synagogue and stole charity boxes of money and electronics sometime between July 14 and 17.

The 43-year-old victim told police that she locked the Park Slope Jewish Center’s office, between 12th and 13th streets, at around 2 p.m. on July 14. When she returned on July 17 at around 11 a.m., she found that someone had entered the office without forced entry and stole charity boxes with $100 cash inside, an Apple laptop and a projector. The victim told police that several people do have keys to the office.
