Police Blotter: Crook Steals $3,000 in Tools from Pep Boys

A 45-year-old crook stole $3,000 worth of tools from a Fourth Avenue auto supply chain Jan. 10.

The 29-year-old victim, the owner of Pep Boys near Third Street, told police that the crook, who is an acquaintance, stole eight tools from his toolbox in the store’s garage. The 45-year-old crook, who is described as a white man standing 5-foot-7, 185 lbs., with blonde curly hair, took the victim’s key and opened the locked toolbox sometime between 2:54 and 3 p.m. and removed six Snap-on wrenches, one set of sockets, and one set of screwdrivers. Since the heist, the crook has refused to return the tools.

Man Arrested for Stealing Fruitcake and Wine Glasses

Police arrested a 43-year-old burglar after he used deception to get into an apartment building on Prospect Park West and stole two packages containing a cake and wine glasses on Feb. 19.

The 30-year-old victim told police that the crook rang numerous bells to different apartments in the building, between Ninth and 10th streets, at around 4:15 p.m. until someone let him in. Once in the building, the burglar stole two packages, worth $145, and fled. The crook stole a fruitcake and another box filled with wine glasses. Shortly after the burglary, police stopped the man who was in possession of the two boxes and three screwdrivers, which were burglary tools. They arrested the man, who was a repeat-offender. 

Car Boosted from Baltic Street

A crook stole a woman’s car from its parking spot on Baltic Street sometime between Feb. 20 and 21.

The 43-year-old victim told police that she parked her gray Chrysler PT Cruiser on Baltic Street, between Third and Fourth avenues, on Feb. 20 at around 9 p.m. She locked all the doors and windows and has no outstanding parking tickets. When she returned to get her car the next day at 10:30 a.m., it was gone. There was no broken glass in the parking spot and police said that it was not towed.
