Police Blotter: Crook Hits Man on Carroll St. and Steals iPhone

iPhone Snatch on Carroll Street

A crook hit a man walking on Carroll Street, stole his cell phone and ran away on Nov. 14.

The 31-year-old victim told police that he was walking along Carroll Street when we arrived at the corner of Fourth Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. with his iPhone in his hand. Then a man ran up from behind, struck him from behind with an open hand, grabbed the victim’s iPhone and ran off with it. The victim could not describe the suspect, but said he ran southbound on Fourth Avenue.

Cash and Credit Card Stolen from Locker

A crook stole a man’s credit card and $140 in cash from an unlocked locker inside a Ninth Street gym on Nov. 13. 

The 50-year-old victim told police that he went to workout at the YMCA, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, at around 8 p.m. and left his belongings inside a locker, but did not lock it up. When he returned to his locker 50 minutes later, he realized that someone had stolen his property. The crook got away with a credit card and $140 in cash.

Burglary on Carroll Street

A burglar broke into a Carroll Street home through the front window and stole a backpack and iPhone on Nov. 12. 

The 42-year-old victim told police that the burglar climbed through the front window, between Seventh and Eighth avenues, at around 2:10 a.m. The crook stole the victim’s iPhone and blue backpack, which were sitting in the vestibule. The victim told police that he found his two front doors unlocked, where the burglar escaped, and a handprint on the window. The crook also touched and moved two bike helmets.

Smash and Grab at Union Street Restaurant

A burglar smashed a Union Street restaurant window with a brick and stole $60 from the cash register on Nov. 12.

The 34-year-old victim told police that he left his restaurant, Falafilo between Fourth and Fifth avenues, at around 1 a.m. and locked all the doors. When he returned at 9:30 a.m., he found that someone had smashed his front door window with a brick, which was lying on the floor, and broke in. The burglar stole $60 from the cash register.

Wallet Picked from Grocery Cart at Key Food 

A quick-handed thief snatched a woman’s designer wallet and $280 in cash while she was shopping at a supermarket on Flatbush Avenue on Nov. 12.

The 48-year-old victim told police that she was shopping at Key Food, on the corner of Sterling Place, while talking on her cell phone at around 12:30 p.m. At some point, someone stole her wallet, worth $250 itself, from her cart. The crook also got away with $280 in cash, three credit cards, a check for $40 and her driver’s license. 

Jewelry Picked from Purse at C-Town

A thief stole a woman’s jewelry from her pocketbook while she was shopping at a Ninth Street grocery store on Nov. 8.

The 17-year-old victim told police that she was shopping at C-Town, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, when at around 4 p.m. she realized someone had taken a gold chain heart with a silver ring from her purse. The jewelry is worth $130.
