Police Blotter: Crook Breaks into Van and Steals Over $3K in Electronics and Tools

Crook Breaks into Van and Steals Electronics and Power Tools

A thief broke into a van and stole $3,720 in electronics and power tools parked in a garage on Second Avenue on Sept. 11.

The 39-year-old victim told police that he parked his car in the lot at the corner of 10th Street at around 10:30 a.m. and went to Lowe’s. When he returned at 10:40 a.m. he jumped in and started driving to Manhattan. When he realized his belongings were missing, he went back to the parking lot where he found the handle to his van’s door and called the police. The crook got away with a MacBook Air, a cordless saw, a cordless drill, metal cutters and sheetrock knives.

Pathmark Wallet Snatch

Police arrested a woman for snatching a man’s wallet from a 12th Street supermarket on Sept. 13.

The 32-year-old victim told police that he was paying for his groceries at Pathmark, near Hamilton Place, when he left his wallet on the card reader and walked out of the store at around 7:53 p.m. The crook, a 29-year-old woman, walked up and stole the wallet, containing $320 in cash, and walked out. Police arrested her shortly.

Sixth Ave. Cell Phone Snatch 

A thief grabbed a man’s cell phone out of his hands while he was walking on Sixth Avenue and ran away on Sept. 14.

The 24-year-old victim told police that he was walking on Sixth Avenue near Sixth Street at around 5:30 p.m. when a thief, a black man about 20 years old, 150 lbs. and standing 5-foot-8, ran up and snatched his iPhone out of his hands. The crook ran southbound down Seventh Street and was gone.

Mug and Run 

Police arrested a 22-year-old crook for mugging a man for his wallet and cell phone on Third Street and hitting him in the head on Sept. 15.

The victim told police that he was walking along Third Street, between Prospect Park West and Eighth Avenue, at around 1:40 a.m. Then the crook approached the victim and forcibly removed his wallet, keys and his cell phone. The violent crook then hit the victim in the face, causing a big cut on his head and face. The crook then fled westbound on Third Street and was arrested on Garfield Place at Seventh Avenue. The victim lost a good amount of blood and ws transported to Lutheran Hospital. The police returned the victim’s property and found amphetamines on the crook.
