Police Blotter: Burglar Steals Laptop and Camera from 11th Street Apartment

Reports from the NYPD's 78th Precinct.

The following information was supplied by the 78th Precinct of the NYPD. It does not indicate a conviction.

The Rear Window Burglar

A burglar climbed through a rear window of an 11th Street apartment and stole $1,600 in electronics on April 12.

The two victims, a 23-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman who live together, told police that they left their apartment, between Seventh and Eighth avenues, at around 4 p.m. to visit friends. When the 38-year-old victim returned home at around 10 p.m., she found that the front door’s top lock was locked and she couldn’t get in because they do not have a key for that deadbolt. She then went to a neighbor’s and climbed down the fire escape to her back window, which was open. After she climbed through the open rear window, she found that her laptop was missing from the living room and her jewelry box was disturbed, but no jewelry was taken. When the 23-year-old victim came home, he found that his camera was missing from his bedroom. The burglar got away with a Dell laptop, Olympus camera and camera bag for a total of $1,600.

Smash ‘N Grab at Lowe’s

A thief smashed a car window and stole a $1,500 designer backpack sitting inside the car parked in a 12th Street hardware store parking lot on April 12.

The 30-year-old victim told police that she parked her Jeep in Lowe’s parking lot, between Second and Third avenues, threw her Louis Vuitton knapsack in the backseat and ran inside the store to shop at around 11:30 a.m. When she returned 15 minutes later, she found that someone had smashed the passenger-side front window and stole her $1,500 bag. The crook also got away with two debit cards and one credit card. The crook ran off in an unknown direction.
