Crook Snags Carroll Street Apt. Key Hidden in Shoe, Steals Box of Change

A woman stole a man's spare house key from inside a pair of sneakers he keeps in the hallway outside of his door, entered his home and stole $15 in coins June 23.

The Spare Key Burglar

A burglar stole a man’s spare key from its hiding place in a Carroll Street building hallway, entered his apartment and snatched $15 in change during the early morning hours of June 23.

The 42-year-old victim told police that he was inside his apartment, between Eighth Avenue and Prospect Park West, when he heard someone moving around at 1:15 a.m. The victim yelled, “Who is there?” And a voice replied, “Gail.” Thinking she accidently entered the wrong apartment, he then walked the woman—described as a black woman standing 5-foot-7, weighing 200 lbs. with long dreadlocks—out of his front door. After she left, he realized she stole his spare house key from inside a pair of sneakers he keeps in the hallway outside of his door, entered his home and stole a box of change worth $15.

Bus Pickpocket

A thief stole a woman’s wallet with two credit cards and a driver’s license inside while riding a bus along Fifth Avenue June 22.

The 45-year-old victim told police that she boarded the B63 bus on Fifth Avenue at 4:15 p.m. Five minutes later, while at the intersection of Union Street, she realized someone had stolen her wallet from her purse. The crook got away with the victim’s two debit cards and driver’s license.
