Police Blotter: Burglar Pries Open Carroll St. Window and Steals $600

Burglar Pries Open Window Gate With a Crowbar

A burglar pried open a Carroll Street apartment window with a crowbar and stole $600 in cash between Sept. 26 and 27.

The 32-year-old victim told police that she went to bed Sept. 26 at around 10:30 p.m. in her home between Fifth and Sixth avenues, but when she woke up the next day at 7:30 a.m., she found that her front door was ajar and a crowbar was sitting on the ground with her doorbell. Her front window was also ajar and the window’s iron gate was pried open. The crook entered through the window and stole $100 from her purse and $500 from a kitchen drawer.

Cell Phone Snatch at Fourth Ave-Ninth Street Subway

A thief snatched a cell phone from a man while he was waiting on the platform for the train at Fourth Ave-Ninth Street subway station on Sept. 25.

The 46-year-old victim told police that he was sitting on a bench on the northbound platform waiting for the F train at around 2 p.m. He took out his Samsung Galaxy and the crook, who he described as a black man who was about 20 years old and 6-foot, snatched it out of his hand and fled in an unknown direction. 

Bar Burglarized Afterhours 

A burglar broke into a Fourth Avenue bar’s basement and stole an undetermined amount of cash on Sept. 24.

The owner of Cherry Tree, between Bergen Street and St. Marks Place, told police that the burglar used a key to open the bar’s front door at around 4 a.m., but used force to break into the basement. The crook stole an undetermined amount of cash that was kept in the basement. The owner also told police that an employee was fired a few days earlier and had a key. The burglar was caught on Cherry Tree’s surveillance cameras.  

Purse Snatch at Starbucks

A quick-handed crook snatched a woman’s purse while she stepped outside to make a phone call at a coffee shop on Seventh Avenue on Sept. 23.

The 28-year-old victim told police that she was at Starbucks, between First Street and Garfield Place, but left her purse on a table while she went outside to make a phone call at around 5 p.m. The crook got away with $90 in cash, a small gold purse inside the bag, credit cards and a debit card. The thief was caught on video. 

Tires and Rims Stolen Off Parked Car

A thief removed all four tires and rims off a car parked on 8th Avenue some time between Sept. 19 and 25.

The 36-year-old victim told police that he parked his red Honda near Lincoln Place on Sept. 19 at around 8:30 p.m. When he returned to get his four-door sedan on Sept. 25 at 5:30 p.m., he found that someone had removed all four stock tires and rims, a total of $1,800.
