Police Blotter: Burglar Arrested for Breaking Into Carroll St. Building and Stealing Vacuum

Reports from the 78th Precinct.

The following information was supplied by the 78th Precinct of the NYPD. It does not indicate a conviction.

The Vacuum Thief

Police arrested a 43-year-old repeat offender for breaking into a Carroll Street building and stealing a vacuum cleaner on April 17.

The two arresting officers saw the crook, a Hispanic male, walking along Fourth Avenue and pulling on apartment building doors to see if they were open between Garfield Place and Carroll Street but they were all locked. But when the burglar approached the building on Carroll Street at Fourth Avenue around 12:07 p.m., he used a screwdriver to force open the door, went inside and stole a Hoover vacuum cleaner. When he left the building with the vacuum, Sergeant Catanzaro and Officer Talat apprehended him, but he resisted arrest and refused to be handcuffed by keeping his arms under his body and did not comply with directions. After they cuffed the crook, they returned the $60 vacuum to the victim.

Motorcycle Boosted

A thief stole a motorcycle from its parking spot on St. Marks Avenue sometime between April 17 and 18.

The 29-year-old victim told police that he parked his blue Yamaha motorbike between Flatbush and Carlton avenues on April 17 at around 9 p.m. When he returned to get his motorcycle the next day at around 11:25 a.m., it was gone. Police said that it was not towed.
