Police Blotter: Thief Breaks into Car and Steals iPhone, Tablet and a Radar Detector

Bad Credit 

A slick crook opened two credit cards using a Park Slope woman’s identity and charged over $12,000 since November 2011.

The 58-year-old victim told police that on May 8, two banks, First National Bank of Omaha and Chase Bank, called and notified her that someone fraudulently opened two business credit cards by using her name and social security number back in November. The crook maxed out both cards, for a total of $12,650. She was also notified that a third one was opened but was not yet used.

Bad Locker

A thief stole an iPhone, cash, credit cards and clothes from a locker in a Ninth Street gym on May 6.

The 35-year-old victim reported to police that a New York Sports Club employee told him that a man came up to him and said that he needed his lock cut in order to get into his locker at around 1 p.m. The employee clipped the man’s lock and left the locker room.  The crook then looted the victim’s locker and made off with his iPhone, wallet, a debit card and a credit card, a pair of jeans and $100 cash. 

Electronic Swipe

A crook broke into a car on Second Avenue and made off with over $2,000 worth of electronics on May 7. 

The 37-year-old victim told police that he parked his Mitsubishi between 10th and 11th streets on May 5 at around 5:45 a.m. and locked his doors. When he returned to his car on May 7 his belongings were gone. The thief made off with a laptop, a Dell tablet, an iPhone, a radar detector and black leather bag. The victim also told police that there was no sign of forced entry.

Mini Van Be Gone

A crook swiped a minivan from its parking spot on Seventh Street on May 9.

The 54-year-old victim told police that he parked his maroon Dodge Caravan near Seventh Avenue, just down the street from his own home, at around 12 p.m. on May 8. When he returned to get his car the next day at 10 a.m., it was gone. Neighbors told police that they did not see the man’s car on May 9. There was no broken glass in its parking spot.
