Police Blotter: A Thief Snatches an iPhone from Woman on Plaza Street West

Reports from the NYPD’s 78th precinct.

The following information was supplied by the 78th Precinct of the NYPD. It does not indicate a conviction.

iPhone Snatch

A quick-legged crook snatched a woman’s iPhone out of her hands while she was walking on Plaza Street West on June 26.

The victim told police that she was walking between Berkeley and Lincoln places at around 3 p.m. when a black male, standing approximately 6 feet and weighing 160 pounds, ran up behind her and snatched her iPhone. The victim fell to the ground while a witness tried to catch the crook, who ran west-bound towards Lincoln Place while wearing a blue baseball hat and a gray jacket. The victim refused medical attention, but did not have any injuries.

Failed Mugging

Three crooks pushed a man and tried to run off with his backpack on Union Street on June 25.

The victim, who was walking from the R train on Fourth Avenue and Union Street with his girlfriend at around 11:45 p.m., told police that three black males approached him and one said, “Give me your s@$t” while they were between Third Avenue and Nevins Street. Then the men pushed the victim and grabbed his backpack. For some reason, they did not take it and jumped into a tan and silver van and drove away.

Purse Snatch from Window

A thief snatched a woman’s bag filled with cash and electronics from a Park Place massage parlor on June 25.

The 30-year-old victim told police that she put her purse on a shelf next to an open window inside her office at the Sunshine Best Body Work between Fifth and Sixth avenues at around 12 p.m. When she checked on her purse around 3:30 p.m., it was gone. The thief got away with $400 cash, an iPad, an iPad keyboard, two credit cards and a wallet.
