A man was hit by a northbound 4 or 5 train at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station during rush hour Monday, an MTA spokeswoman said.

The man fell on the tracks just before 4:37 p.m. and was taken to Kings County Hospital with injuries to his hand and leg, an FDNY spokesman said.

Several train lines were disrupted for more than an hour, snarling the evening rush hour. As of 6:30 p.m. the lines were running again with 4 and 5 trains bypassing Atlantic Avenue in both directions.

I exited the Nevins Street Station and walked to Atlantic Ave because of the delay and when I entered Atlantic Station, I saw the man being carried up on a stretcher. It did appear he lost his left foot as a result of the accident. I have only seen the news of his condition on this website and feel that incidents like these should be posted through more than just one source as these sort of things happen more often than one would think. The public needs to be more aware of the possible dangers of subway platforms, whether it's losing balance or being accidentally pushed during rush hour. I also pray for this man and hope that he will make as good a recovery as possible.
