Fire on Fifth Ave. Leaves One Woman Critically Injured

A woman was rushed to Methodist Hospital in cardiac arrest after an early morning fire.

An early morning fire forced residents from a Fifth Avenue brownstone earlier this morning, as flames ripped through the building and left one woman with critical injuries.

Sixty firefighters rushed to the scene at Fifth Avenue and Carroll Street just after 6:00 a.m. this morning, where a fire had broken out on the top floor of the four-story apartment building.

Firefighters found one 91-year-old woman trapped in the building in cardiac arrest. The woman was rushed to Methodist Hospital. Three firefighters also sustained minor injuries.

The firefighters had the fire under control within an hour. It is still unclear what might have caused the fire.
