Senator Schumer - Give Peace A Chance!

Jan 6, 2014

I believe that Brooklyn residents would be shocked and dismayed to know that our Senator, Charles Schumer, is taking the lead in the Senate in trying to scuttle the negotiations that President Obama has initiated with Iran.

The President, departing from the Bush-era policy of using war to settle disputes, is using diplomacy instead of military might. We know where Bush's policy got us: two disastrous, trillion-dollar wars, one of which continues to this day. Both wars resulted in untold death and destruction, roiling the Mid East and leaving it much more unstable. Both wars have contributed mightily to our present economic crisis. Thousands of our soldiers gave their lives in these reckless adventures and those soldiers who returned with critical wounds will try to recover their lives and their good health – many will not succeed, leaving society with still another burden of these wars.

So why is Democrat Schumer (and some other Democratic senators) joining with pro-war Senate Republicans in introducing legislation that would torpedo the best chance we've had in decades of establishing normal relations with Iran and reaching a settlement that would freeze that country's nuclear program at safe levels making it impossible for them to build nuclear weapons? Polls show an overwhelming majority of Americans support those negotiations. And the President has the support of most of our allies and the international community.
President Obama has called on Congress to give him and our partners the time it takes to pursue a peaceful settlement to the dispute with Iran.

We need to tell Senator Schumer to retract his legislation (co-sponsored by GOP war hawks) that will very likely trigger yet another war in the Mid East. Tell him to give peace a chance!
You can reach Senator Schumer at (877) 762-8762. Please call and help prevent another war.
