5 Things: Folk, Funk and Soul at The Way Station

What you need to know, pre-coffee.

Note: There is no Target First Saturday this week (it was last week). We apologize for the error. -Amy

1. Hear some music.
Head to The Way Station for an eclectic line-up that includes Wicked Willy + Whiskey Spillers + Cookie Cutta and the Crips. So whether you like folk or funk, or rock or roots, there's something at the Way Station for you. 683 Washington Ave. Free. Show starts at 8 p.m.

2. Meet the artist(s). Today is also the annual SONYA Studio Stroll Open Artist's Studios, where you can visit working artists in their studios. About 70 artists are participating throughout Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Wallabout and Bedford-Stuyvesant. Free.

3. Celebrate a milestone. The Irondale celebrates three decades with a celebration/fundraiser from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. that includes barbecue, jazz, performances and dancing. Details here

4. Develop your shutter skills. If you like photography but you've never taken your camera off automatic, then there's a workshop today for you. Led by professional photographer Anthony M. Rosariao, Switch to Manual Photo Workshop & Walk will teach you everything you need to know to use the manual functions of your camera, allowing you to raise your photos to a new level. The price is hefty, $199 for the four-hour workshop, but how much did you pay for that SLR?

5. Help a neighbor out. There's also the Taylor Watkins Cancer Benefit Party tonight to help the 27-year-old artist fight a second bout with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Taylor does not have health insurance, and getting treatment has been difficult. The event at LaunchPad will have live music, food and drinks. See details at the link, as well as information on how to donate to the fund.
