Gowanus Canal Conservancy Clean

Cleanly up the Gowanus Canal is now the job of the federal government. But cleaning up the vicinity surrounding the canal is a local initiative. Make Gowanus beautiful by volunteering with the Gowanus Canal Conservancy to clean the canal's street ends, maintain the composting program and plant street trees.

To volunteer this Saturday, July 23 meet at The Salt Lot (2nd Avenue and 5th Street). All volunteers must register by e-mailing volunteer@gowanuscanalconservancy.org. Remember to wear closed toed shoes and sunscreen (it's expected to be high of 96 degrees on Saturday!)

If you can't make that session, there will be further clean-up opportunities on Sunday, August 21 on Huntington Street (west of canal) for a mural project and clean-up, and Saturday September 24 at 1st Street (west of canel) for a community garden installation.
