Target First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum

Enjoy free programs of art and entertainment. Events include: Dendê and Band combine Brazilian music with Afrobeat grooves (5pm). Short, dynamic talks about works in our collection (5:30-7:30pm). Join the Center for Urban Pedagogy for a conversation about innovative uses of design and art to improve civic engagement. Free tickets (30) at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m. (6pm). Heavy Metal in Baghdad (Suroosh Alvi, 2007, 84 min.) follows filmmakers tracking down the Iraqi heavy metal band Acrassicauda during the Iraq war. Free tickets (330) at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m. (6-7:30pm). Create art inspired by music and other sensory experiences. At 8:30, artist group Purring Tiger presents scenes from Mizaru, an interactive dance and multimedia performance. Open to ages 16 and over(7:30-10pm). Lindsay Sanwald's music project Idgy Dean creates haunting, rhythm-driven sounds(7:45pm). Barbara Browning presents I’m Trying to Reach You, a provocative novel that blurs the boundaries between life and performance (8pm). ScienZe (aka Jamal Monsanto) + the EllaVators perform old-school hip hop with artful vibes and rich cultural influences (9pm).
