Opening night of 'Oh Nellie!'

Only a hundred years ago an orphan from Apollo, PA defied the limited roles for women and elbowed her way into the press. Having broken one glass ceiling she refused to write about fashion and flowers. Nellie reported on the life of working girls in sweat shops. She assumed any number of disguises to expose the horrors in our nation’s asylums and corruption in politics. Nellie challenged the fictitious globe-trotting of Jules Verne’s “Around the World in 80 Days”; she made the trip in 72 and she did it all in a corset in 1889 at the age of twenty four. That left her plenty of time to enjoy her unusual independence, marry for a time, re-invent herself as a business woman in Brooklyn and then again as a reporter from the trenches of World War One. Her fearless compassion and personal point of view made her unique in the field of journalism.

Join us at historic treasure, The Old Stone House for the premier of Oh Nellie! as we present the adventures of Nellie Bly, a play with original songs and puppets of all sizes. Don't miss the celebration, a belated Valentine to this American sweetheart!
