Community Corner

Women of Color Writers Workshop

The Women of Color Writers Community has the core belief that everyone has a story to tell or a poem in her heart to share with the world. The voices of women of color in the literary world are too often unheard, under-represented or undervalued. We have created a community that supports women of color writers by increasing the scope, volume and quality of publications of our work both locally and globally.

The group was founded in 1999 by Bisi Ideraabdullah, founder and Executive Director of the Brooklyn-Liberia based non-profit, Imani House. WOC Writers Community is an affiliate of Amherst Writers as Artists and offers workshops in writing and poetry at the Park Slope office of Imani House.

Entering in its 14th year, this is a six week workshop that seeks to create a safe and supportive space for women of color.  Tuition is $150 and a $25 deposit is required upon registration.  Partial scolarships may be avilable.  Space is limited.  Please visit our website for more details.
