The Women of Color Writers Community has the core belief that everyone has a story to tell or a poem in her heart to share with the world.  The voices of women of color in the literary world are too often unheard, under-represented or undervalued.  We have created a community that supports women of color writers by increasing the scope, volume and quality of publications of our work both locally and globally.

The group was founded in 1999 by Bisi Ideraabdullah, founder and Executive Director of the Brooklyn-Liberia based non-profit, Imani House.  WOC Writers Community is an affiliate of Amherst Writers as Artists and offers workshops in writing and poetry at the Park Slope office of Imani House.

We invite you to an evening of readings from an exciting mix of women writing across cultures, lifestyles and boundaries.  Come celebrate the legacy of Women of Color and the unique perspectives that we share.

We will be inviting our own published and featured writers to read at this event and will be opening the mic to the public so that others may enrich this collective experience.
