BEYOND SELF-PROMOTION: Exploring Artists, Art Trends and Aesthetics Through Social Media
Social media
platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr, are useful
promotional tools for artists but can also offer a vital environment
to explore art, events and artists and thereby benefit one's own
artistic practice. Featuring artists who have mined social media to
enrich their own artistic development, the discussion will address
specific websites and blogs that cover the vast online art world,
strategies for developing a personal image library as a source of
inspiration, and the potential for social media to serve as both an
artistic platform and means to engage with other artists in the age
of digital.
The discussion will
be facilitated by artist Melissa Capasso. A graduate of NYU, Melissa
has studied painting and art history in Florence, Italy;
Provincetown, MA; and Santa Fe, NM.
This evening has
been made possible by the Park Slope Parents Visual Artists group.
The PSP Visual Artists was founded two years ago as a way for local
artists to meet with and support each other. We hold events related
to the challenge of balancing family and creative life, setting goals
and professional development, studio visits, and more.
