The Week in Park Slope

What happened this week on Park Slope Patch.

It was another big week of news in Park Slope. Here’s our roundup of the biggest headlines in the neighborhood this week.

On Monday, Around the Slope columnist Louise Crawford took at what issues really matter to neighborhood leaders and locals. Surprisingly, the Prospect Park West bike lane didn’t dominate the conversation. Instead, folks were more concerned about issues like affordable housing and education.

We also took a look at how might reflect area schools. In the largest of the proposed cuts, could lose six teachers, or 17 percent of the staff.

Tuesday was a big news day. First up, in what may have been the biggest news of the week, Slopers began to a new Atlantic Yards-area restaurant and lounge called Prime 6 after a heated Community Board 6 meeting on Monday night. Later in the week, surfaced in reaction to the eatery, and today the North Flatbush BID penned an urging residents to approach the situation with an open mind.

That same day, our Neighborhood Nests columnist gave us a peak inside one of Park Slope’s most beautiful homes, . We also found out that Flatbush Avenue will soon be following in the footsteps of Fifth Avenue and installing .

On Wednesday, ace reporter Alyssa Bereznak profiled Park Slope blogger Erica Reitman of . Turns out Reitman actually loves Park Slope.

“I do it all with a sense of humor,” she said. “You can hate it or love it, but it’s my outlook on life. If you want to come hang out on my blog, I would love for you to join us. But if not, I’ll still say sorry if I bump into you on the street.”

On Thursday, a thug made off with $7000 after on Prospect Park West in Windsor Terrace. Park Slope Eatery also that same day.

On Friday, a consumed the top floor of a Fifth Avenue brownstone, leaving one woman dead. We later learned that a cigarette was the cause of the fire.

Our resident foodie also took a look at Seventh Avenue’s new burger joint, . Spoiler alert: she wasn’t impressed.

Then we revealed that on March 26, goose-lovers around Prospect Park lake in protest of future goose slaughter.

“I grew up in Park Slope. Prospect Park was always my backyard and the geese were my friends. And I want to keep them safe for future generations and for other children to enjoy their beauty and their grace,” said Councilmember Letitia James, who will attend the event and join hands around the lakeside.
