UPDATE: Snow Spotted in the Slope

A blizzard has hit New York City

UPDATE: The Sanitation Dept has suspended trash pickups tomorrow in order to clear the streets of snow.

A major snowstorm working its way up the East Coast has hit Park Slope.

Yesterday, the National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for the borough beginning today at 5 a.m. and lasting through through 6 p.m. Monday. The snow hit Park Slope late this morning and is expected to worsen as the day wears on, letting up sometime tomorrow.

Brooklyn residents are advised to stay indoors beginning at 6:00 p.m. tonight. Winds are expected to reach up to 60 miles an hour with zero visibility at times. The borough may also endur power outages and some fallen trees.

Additionally, Alternate Side Parking regulations for Monday, Dec. 27 have officially been suspended to accomodate snow plows.

According to the forecast, Brooklyn should expect around 12.4 inches of snow, with other parts of  northeastern New Jersey, New York City, southeastern Connecticut and Long Island getting up to 16 inches.

The storm developed off the Carolina Coast and will head north to Canada by Tuesday.
