Five Things to Do This Week

Our picks for great events in the neighborhood.

Come help out fellow New Yorkers affected by Hurricane Sandy by dropping off canned goods to Two Boots of Brooklyn for their Hurricane Relief Effort. Bring anything from canned goods, bread, fruit, snacks, water, socks, gloves and warm clothing, toiletries, and more.

Come to Freddy's Bar for some free live music in the back room.

Bring your little one to Dean Street for their weekly event, Shake It Up Baby! With egg shakers shakin' to the bongo beat, this weekly event will get your kids shaking, dancing, singing and grooving.

Check out The Bell House for Fountains of Wayne play a show. Fountains of Wayne will perform songs of their new album Sky Full of Holes, along with Robert Schwartzman.

Spend your Friday at Brooklyn Academy of Music for Sans Objet. Compagnie 111
presents Sans Objet, a dance between man and machine. Dance becomes a precise mechanized language that communicates with a large plastic robot-like object situated on the stage, which later moves with the dancers.

The poster above is to promote Light! Camera! Auction! It's not mentioned in this article, but it's Friday night at the Bell House. Sandy Relief has been our main focus this week, so we put our own self-promotion on the back burner. We actually thought our local writers would step up. We hope every one comes. Gowanus could really use some good fun right now and it just so happens we've been planning this bash for 4 months to support our mission...but the tone changed with Sandy. This week we were first responders to Sandy and tore everything from the shelves we knew would help and recruited drivers to deliver. So, a Patch recommendation would have been seriously welcome. GOWANUS is a discount code for reduced tickets for our neighbors. You'll have to go to Film Biz Recycling's web page and click through to buy discounted tickets since it is not provided by the Patch here.

Oh, and we have committed 10% to our neighbors at Red Hook Initiative. Come dance people and for a few hours shake your tail feathers and feel great. It's been a tough week.
