City will Install Shelters Along B61 Route

The B61 bus may not come on time, but at least riders will have a place to sit as they wait. The city announced that it plans to build new shelters along the B61 bus route by September 2012, according to the Brooklyn Paper.

The report says that shelters will soon be installed at bus stops at Van Brunt Street and Hamilton Avenue, Columbia and Warren streets, and Lorraine and Hicks streets.

A is late over 50 percent of the time, and if the bus does show up it will either be crowded with passengers, or the bus driver will not stop at all.

The B61 bus route services Park Slope to Downtown Brooklyn via Red Hook and it is the only mode of transportation for Red Hook residents.

“Out of the four buses in my district, the B61 is the worst,” Councilman Brad Lander said, earlier this month.

After the elimination of the B75 and B77 buses in June 2010, the B61 route was expanded to pick up the slack. The B71, which ran on Union Street between Carroll Gardens and Park Slope, was eliminated without a replacement at all.
