Just today, our neighbors over at Carroll Gardens Patch broke the very sad news that early this morning a and killed while riding in the center westbound lane of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway near Atlantic Avenue. What exactly a cyclist was doing on the BQE at all still remains to be seen.

It was a big week for news in Fort Greene. Editor Stephen Brown broke the news of , which business owners are not too happy about. Business owneres told Brown that in particular, store closings on Fulton between Washington Avenue and St. James Place are the result of a local landlord drastically inflating rent. One local dry cleaners said their rent was raised from $1,500 per month to a whopping $6,000 per month in only one year.

Fort Greene Patch also brought us news that — the ultra hip bar which has been "opening next week" for months now — is finally open on Fulton between Waverly Street and Washington Avenue.



Park Slope isn't the only neighborhood whose schools are attracting  At a hearing last night,  on Classon Avenue were outraged over a proposal to move a charter school into the building already housing both schools, fearing overcrowding.

Bed-Stuy

Here's another great piece from a Patch sustainability columnist: today on Bed-Stuy Patch, "Easy Being Green" writer Sung Bin Park urged residents to on their block now, rather that wait for the city to take action in replanting trees damaged this year in the tornado. That's a message that translates to all Brooklyn neighborhoods.
