5 Things: Battle Ground Exhibit at Proteus Gowanus

What you need to know, pre-coffee.

1. Prepare for battle. Battle Ground, the third and last exhibit of Proteus Gowanus' yearlong Battle theme, will "explore the pathos of the Battle of Brooklyn, stimulating our collective memory, evoking parallels between past and present, while focusing on the complexity, moral ambiguity, and devastation of this important Revolutionary confrontation." All artwork is by local artists. A kickoff party will be held this Saturday, April 13, at Proteus Gowanus, 543 Union Street, 7 p.m.

2. Discuss your online life in real life. Bestselling author David Rushkoff will be speaking at Greenlight Bookstore tonight about his new book, Present Shock, which examines the modern day social universe, where Twitter, texts and Facebook have caused us to be "always on" but rarely present.

3. Walk 500 more. Twin brothers and 90s pop wonders The Proclaimers (aka Craig and Charlie Reid) will perform an acoustic set tonight at The Bell House in support of "LIKE COMEDY," their ninth full length release. 9 p.m. $25

4. Clean up the park. Nature-loving volunteer types should head over to Prospect Park today for Thursday Corps. "Volunteers perform a multitude of different projects," according to the site. "The group meets at a different location every week helping in a variety of landscape and horticultural projects. Regardless of physical ability, there's something for everyone to do." It's from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Register here.

5. Move your car. Alternate side parking rules are in effect today.
