The 'Woodstock' Sandwich at Naidres

On a hot day, this sandwich hits the spot.

As the heat picks up, I find myself frequently relying on , on Seventh Avenue between 11th and 12th streets, for my daily caffeine fix

I'm a tea drinker, and in the cooler months I usually brew it myself at home from an increasingly large arsenal of tea leaves.

But as those droplets of sweat on the brow become increasingly common, I find that I rarely have the patience to first brew my tea, and then wait for it to cool to a temperature appropriate for blistering heat.

So instead, I find myself at Naidres, where I can purchase 16 ounces of icy satisfaction for a mere $2.25.

And sometimes, at Naidres, I'll spring for a sandwich, too.

This week, I tried the Woodstock – a sandwich composed of everything you might expect from a sandwich named for the great ‘60s hippie fest.

Multigrain bread gets toasted and slathered first with roasted red pepper hummus, then piled high with cheddar, juicy ripe tomatoes, crisp greens, more cheese and then creamy avocado.

It’s the embodiment of exactly how I like to eat in the summer – simple, fresh and healthy.

And better yet, it's one of the items available with Naidre’s great “picnic basket special” – perfect for an afternoon spent lazing in Prospect Park under the hot sun.

Especially when paired with an iced tea.
