It’s tough to find a good breakfast sandwich — the eggs are too runny, not cooked right or it’s just too heavy to take down first thing.
That’s why a sandwich at on Seventh Avenue is perfect for breakfast. The croissant with ham and cheese, just $3.95, simplifies the breakfast sandwich with still giving you flavor and a hearty-enough meal.
The Country Ham is from Paisano’s on Smith Street and the cheese is Gruyere. The croissant is homemade, everyday, glazed with honey.
The croissant is crisp, flaky, and sweet, while the ham is thick, savory and high quality. It’s as if the ham was leftover from the holidays, its sheer size combined with flavor.
And the cheese brings it all together for a meal best eaten warm and in the morning.
Michael Orobona, the general manager at Sweet Melissa’s, said they weren’t trying to make the sandwich anything special.
“It’s just such a simple sandwich compared to what other people make,” Orobona said. “But that’s the thing, it’s so good because it’s so simple.”
