Park Slope's Gear to Go Turns to Grassroots Crowdfunding for Expansion

Gear to Go Outfitters is looking to expand and turning to customers for help.

Gear to Go Outfitters in Park Slope is looking to grow into a larger shop in April and is turning to the community for support.

Rather than use sites like Kickstarter or Indiegogo, the business, which has been open for five years is hoping its established relationships in the community will help support a grassroots campaign.

"We're committed to staying in Park Slope but we're looking to expand into a shop that is eight times the size of our current shop on Garfield Place," the campaign reads. "Expanding will allow us to carry footwear, more apparel, kid's apparel, climbing gear, fishing gear, and more of everything else.

"It will also allow us to better serve as a community resource by giving us the physical space to offer free skills lectures, workshops, panels, book signings, and even free "Mountaineering Movie Nights!"

Bank loans are unavailable and have been unable to find private investors, so they are turning to the customers to help and are offering rewards.

For example, if you decide to purchase the $1,000 package you receive $1,419.95 in products and services including a $1,250 Gift Card, invitation to the pre-opening party and a free day hike.

"We've always said we are your local outfitter and we're excited about the opportunity to grow with the support of our local community. March 3rd marks five years in business for us and I hope to celebrate by starting construction in the new space which we plan to open sometime in April."
