New Slice Spot for Seventh Ave.

Yet another pizzeria opens in Park Slope

There are few things in life you can never get enough of, and pizza just might be one of them.

At least that’s what the owners of Da Nonna Rosa, the newest pizzeria to open shop on Seventh Avenue, are hoping.

The slice joint opened its doors just last week in the short-lived Mack’s space on Seventh Avenue between Garfield and Carroll Streets.

With the opening of the Da Nonna Rosa, that makes at least nine pizza spots for Seventh Avenue within the Park Slope boundaries. The few blocks surrounding Da Nonna Rosa are particularly popular for pizza, with Joe’s Pizza, Pino's La Forchetta, Two Boots and Tutta Pasta nearby.

But the folks at Da Nonna Rosa aren’t worried about the competition.

“I think our selection and the quality that we’re giving will set us apart,” said manager Lenny Fernandes.

“It’s a very big selection but it’s also quality. A lot of slice places aren’t using the same quality of ingredients we are. We aren’t skimping, we’re using the best mozzarella, the best tomatoes.”

Da Nonna Rosa, which is owned by the same folks who own Gino's in Port Washington, often offers 13 or 14 different kinds of slices at a time, including funkier varieties like a chicken Caesar salad slice and Fernandes’ favorite, the Raviatta slice with broccoli rabe, cherry peppers and Portobello mushrooms.

The pies are made in a gas oven, and a range of other Italian pastas and salads accompanies the slice menu.

The space itself has been renovated significantly since the days of Mack’s to add dark wood paneling throughout and domed ceilings in the large eat-in dinning room. An upstairs bar and dining room is also available to rent out for parties and events.

Time will tell whether Park Slope’s newest pizza spot might make the cut.
