Chocolate Room Signs Lease at New Spot to Remain in Park Slope

The Chocolate Room is moving, but owners grateful for chance to stay in Park Slope.

With its proximity to the Barclay's Center, The Chocolate Room's rent at its current Park Slope location has skyrocketed out of the range of affordability. Owners Naomi Josepher and Jon Payson knew they had to move, but didn't want to leave Park Slope.

After a long process, the two are excited to announce that they have signed a lease on a new space and will be staying in Park Slope.

When its current lease at 86 5th Avenue expires on Jan. 31, The Chocolate Room will move to 51 5th Avenue, just one block away, once the build out is complete.

"We are incredibly excited to be in the same neighborhood that has so generously supported us," Josepher said. "We've seen families grow, been through ups and downs with individuals, and enjoyed becoming family with the community. We are ecstatic to have this opportunity."

Currently Mega Glass, their new location has been owned and operated by the landlord for many years. According to Josepher, the spot has been a glass company for well over 50 years and they intend to keep and restore many parts of the shop.

"We've always loved going into his shop since it has so much original history," she said. "In a way, both Jon and I subconsciously envisioned this being a TCR someday."

Josepher also said the landlord lowered his asking price to help them stay in the neighborhood.

"We found a landlord that is a small business owner himself, and not only understands, but respects the challenges of running a small business," she said. "He also understands the importance of maintaining shops like ours in the neighborhood to preserve a uniqueness like not other."

The location afford them a patio space as well, so TCR lovers even have a new feature to look forward to.

"We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity," Josepher said, "and based on what I've heard so far, our guests will be very happy as well."
